SUMMARY:HEALTH DEPT TO CONDUCT ADULTICIDING
DESCRIPTION:NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH\nAND MENTAL HYGIENE \nMary T. Bassett\, MD\, MPH \n                                         Commissioner           \nFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE \n  \n  \n  \nHEALTH DEPARTMENT TO CONDUCT EIGHTH ADULTICIDING OF THE SEASON TO REDUCE RISK OF WEST NILE VIRUS \n  \nTrucks will spray pesticide in parts of Queens and Brooklyn on Tuesday\, August 21 and in the Bronx and Brooklyn on Thursday\, August 23 \nAugust 17\, 2018 – To reduce mosquito activity and the risk of West Nile virus\, the Health Department will conduct its eighth adulticide treatment of the season. Trucks will spray pesticides in sections of the Queens and Brooklyn on Tuesday\, August 21 between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning\, weather permitting. In case of bad weather\, application will be delayed until Wednesday\, August 22. Trucks will spray pesticides in sections of the Bronx and Brooklyn on Thursday\, August 23 between the hours of 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. the following morning\, weather permitting. In case of bad weather\, application will be delayed until Monday\, August 27. \n  \nFor the truck sprayings in Queens\, Brooklyn and the Bronx\, the Health Department will use very low concentrations of Anvil® 10+10. The risks of pesticides applied by the Health Department for mosquito control are low to people and pets. Some people who are sensitive to spray ingredients may experience short-term eye or throat irritation\, or a rash. People with respiratory conditions may also be affected. \nTo stay safe during spraying: \n\nStay indoors\, whenever possible.\nAir conditioners can remain on. While unnecessary\, you may wish to close air conditioner vents\, or choose the recirculate function.\n\nAfter spraying: \n\nWhile unnecessary\, you can wash outdoor toys and equipment with soap and water.\nWash skin and clothing exposed to pesticides with soap and water.\nAlways wash fruits and vegetables with water.\n\n  \nThe most effective way to control mosquitoes is to eliminate any standing water. New Yorkers are also encouraged to mosquito-proof their homes and take precautions when spending time outdoors. \n  \nReducing exposure to mosquitoes \n\nUse an approved insect repellent containing DEET\, picaridin\, oil of lemon eucalyptus (not for children under three)\, or products that contain the active ingredient IR3535.\nMake sure windows have screens. Repair or replace screens that have tears or holes.\nEliminate any standing water from your property and dispose of containers that can collect water. Standing water is a violation of the New York City Health Code.\nMake sure roof gutters are clean and draining properly.\nClean and chlorinate swimming pools\, outdoor saunas and hot tubs. Keep them empty or covered if not in use. Drain water that collects in pool covers.\n\n  \nReport standing water by calling 311 or visiting nyc.gov/health/wnv. For more information about West Nile virus\, call 311 or visit nyc.gov. \n  \n  \n  \n  \nLocations of truck spraying in Queens and Brooklyn to reduce risk of West Nile virus \n  \n  \n\n\n\nBorough\nNeighborhoods\nBoundaries\nZip Codes\n\n\nQueens and Brooklyn\nQueens: Parts of Blissville\, Howard Beach\, Hunters Point\, Lindenwood\, Maspeth\, Ridgewood\, Ozone Park\, South Ozone Park\, Sunnyside\, West Maspeth\, and Woodside. \nBrooklyn: Parts of Broadway Junction\, Brownsville\, Bushwick\, City Line\, Cypress Hills\, East New York\, East Williamsburg\, Greenpoint\, Highland Park\, and Ocean Hill\nBordered by Union Avenue\, Brooklyn Queens Expressway\, McGuinness Boulevard\, and 11th Street to the West; 49th Avenue\, Skillman Avenue\, Queens Boulevard\, 69th Street\, Grand Avenue\, Flushing Avenue\, Cypress Avenue\, Vermont Place\, Highland Boulevard\, Force Tube Avenue\, Fulton Street\, and Rockaway Boulevard to the North; Lefferts Boulevard and Bergen Basin to the East; Jamaica Bay\, Old Mill Creek\, Fountain Avenue\, Sutter Avenue\, Rockaway Avenue\, and Broadway to the South.\nQueens: Parts of 11101\, 11104\, 11377\, 11378\, 11385\, 11414\, 11416\, 11417\, 11420\, 11421 and 11430.  Brooklyn: Parts of 11206\, 11207\, 11208\, 11211\, 11212\, 11221\, 11222\, 11233\, and 11237\n\n\n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nMap of truck spray areas \n  \n  \n  \nLocations of truck spraying in the Bronx and Brooklyn to reduce risk of West Nile virus \n  \n\n\n\nBorough\nNeighborhoods\nBoundaries\nZip Codes\n\n\nBronx\nParts of Bathgate\, Belmont\, Bronx River\, Bruckner\, Claremont\, Claremont Village\, Clason Point\, Crotona Park East\, East Tremont\, Harding Park\, Hunts Point\, Longwood\, Melrose\, Morrisania\, Mott Haven\, Port Morris\, Soundview\, The Hub\, Tremont and West Farms\nBordered by Willis Avenue\, Melrose Avenue and Webster Avenue to the West; East 187 Street\, Crotona Avenue\, Cross Bronx Expressway\, Bronx River Parkway and Bruckner Expressway to the North; Thieriot Avenue to the East; and East River\, and East 141st Street to the South.\nParts of 10451\, 10454\, 10455\, 10456\, 10457\, 10458\, 10459\, 10460\, 10472\, 10473\, 10474\n\n\nBrooklyn\nParts of Bergen Beach\, Brighton Beach\, Coney Island\, Flatlands\, Gerritsen Beach\, Gravesend\, Homecrest\, Manhattan Beach\, Marine Park\, Mill Basin\, Mill Island\, Seagate and Sheepshead Bay.\nBordered by 25th Avenue\, 86th Street\, and West 7th Street to the West; Kings Highway\, Ocean Parkway\, Avenue V\, Nostrand Avenue\, Avenue S\, Ocean Avenue\, Avenue N\, East 33rd Street\, Avenue S\, Utica Avenue\, Avenue N\, and Veterans Avenue to the North; East 68th Street and East Mill Basin to the East; Belt Parkway\, West End Avenue\, Coney Island Channel\, Stillwell Avenue and Coney Island Creek to the South.\nParts of 11210\, 11214\, 11223\, 11224\, 11229\, 11234\, 11235\n\n\n\n  \n  \n  \nMap of truck spray areas \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n# \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nSent from the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene.
